На 2 януари Българската православна църква почита паметта на Свети Силвестър, папа Римский (314-335). Според легендата Св. Силвестър е свещеникът, който кръщава официално император Константин І Велики. Името му се свързва и със следното предание. Магьосникът Замврий умъртвил вол, като му прошепнал името на някакъв бог. Силвестър заявил, че единствено Бог може да дава и отнема живот и заповядал на магьосника да се помоли за спасяването на животното….
